Jungkook wins 2 awards for 'Best Song' and 'Best K-Pop' at '2023 MTV EMA'

 

"Global pop star" Jungkook has clinched two prestigious awards at Europe's largest music awards ceremony, the 'MTV EMA.'

 

According to the list of winners unveiled on the official website of the '2023 MTV Europe Music Awards' (referred to as '2023 MTV EMA') on the 6th (Korean time), BTS's Jungkook secured victories in the categories of 'Best Song' and 'Best K-Pop.'

 

Jungkook, who had previously set a record for the highest number of nominations among Korean solo artists at the '2023 MTV EMAs,' demonstrated his worldwide appeal by successfully securing awards in two distinct categories. He stands as the first Korean solo artist to achieve this dual honor at the MTV EMA ceremony.

 

In the 'Best Song' category, Jungkook claimed the trophy for his solo single 'Seven (feat. Latto),' triumphing over notable contenders such as Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift. This accomplishment marks Jungkook as the inaugural K-pop solo artist to win in this category. Previously, BTS was the sole K-pop group to receive recognition in this category with 'Dynamite' in 2020.

 

Jungkook also clinched the 'Best K-Pop' award, recognizing him as the premier K-pop artist of the year. This accolade, introduced in 2019, adds to BTS's impressive tally, securing the title three times as of 2021 and making them the most awarded artist in the 'Best K-Pop' category.

 

His solo release 'Seven,' which took the world by storm since its July debut, achieved milestones like topping the Billboard's 'Hot 100,' surpassing 1 billion streams in record time on Spotify (the world's largest music streaming company), and securing the first position on the 'Daily Top Song Global' chart for an impressive 70 days, continuing to enjoy widespread popularity.

 

Meanwhile, Jungkook continues to make waves in the industry with his active schedule, including the release of his solo album 'GOLDEN' on the 3rd. Scheduled appearances on NBC's morning and evening broadcasts include the renowned talk show 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' on the 7th and the 'CitiConcert Series' of 'TODAY' on the 8th, showcasing his presence on prominent programs one after another.
